Mid 20th Century silk Turkoman coat, Chyrpy, silk with cotton lining. This style of coat / robe was original worn as a mantle or cloak over the head and extending to about the waist. During the Soviet area the cut changed to be worn more as a jacket or cape and were simplified as far as complexity of embroidery is concerned to represent a modest national (ie ethnic) identity. Much care was still taken in the embroidery, the result being a very attractive garment that is more wearable than their 19th century ancestors. Worn but in good condition. The arms are set up in the traditional manner, if you don't intend to alter this it would be worn as a cape. The small embroidered patch holding the two sleeves together is quite interesting, very similar to so of the 1960s era Soviet poster work that was against the US involvement in Vietnam. This patch could be removed (and preserved) and then the garment would wear like a jacket. Embroidered bands have what looks to be the original owners name showing.
