These Turkoman tassels are from northern Afghanistan. They are ornately wrapped/tied with silk and cotton and finished with beaded accents. Originally they were used for tribal décor and were often used to decorate animal trappings as well. Recently they have gained huge popularity in the Tribal Belly dance community as costume embellishments. Some of these tassels have seen authentic tribal wear.
