Exceptionally detailed embroidered dress top, approximately 30 years old. The was made by the Kakarh, a subgroup of the Pathan (Pashtun) inhabiting the mountains on both sides of the Afghan / Pakistan border. The coins that adorn the the blouse come from both countries, the newest is 1982 (thus the estimated age of 30 years.)

The front of the top and both sides of the sleeves are nearly completely covered in hand embroidery, depicting stylized leaves / flowers and geometric patterns. The heavy use of orange, red, golds, with highlight green and blue is very traditional for the region.

Originally there would have been a fairly plain and heavy fabric attached under this piece that formed the skirt. This part is removed before the valuable embroidered top is sold, and the skirt is generally considered to intimate to sell.

Bust: 18" when laying flat.

Very good condition, would look stunning displayed or turned into a new garment.
