Substantial Ersari Turkoman Tumar, 19th century, from Northwestern Afghanistan. The end opens on this piece (as shown in picture) and it is devoid of any of its, likely, previous contents. This is the most basic form of the protective amulet that is often rendered as a triangle. This would have originally been worn as a large necklace, smaller versions were often sewn onto clothing. Not the most practical piece, but a great collectible.
