Banjara Mirror Belt Skirt Top [banjaraL005] $35.00
These brightly embroidered mirror belts are hand made by tribal Banjara women in Northern India (Rajasthan/Gujarat). These large pieces were originally the tops of skirts, when the light cloth portion wears out the embroidered areas are retained. The mirrorwork, called "shisha" stitch, is made in the traditional way by glass craftsman who blow hot mirrored glass spheres that are then broken and snipped into small workable pieces. Once the embroiderers get the mirror pieces the creativity begins, many bright colors are chosen and the placement of mirrors can change from piece to piece. Use them to embellish costume pieces for Tribal Style Bellydance, wear with jeans or for home décor, the possibilities are endless. SIZE of EMBROIDERY: 6"x28"
Mirrors may be cracked or missing from authentic tribal use.
