Banjara Mirror Belt Beltbase [banjara-belt001]
$32.00 $24.00
These brightly embroidered mirror belts are hand made by tribal Banjara women in Northern India (Rajasthan). This piece has been overdyed to tone down the bright colours. The mirrorwork, called "shisha" stitch, is made in the traditional way by glass craftsman who blow hot mirrored glass spheres that are then broken and snipped into small workable pieces before the embroidery. These mirror bands were originally made to be worn as a type of "veil weight" or headband.Use them to embellish costume pieces for Tribal Style Bellydance, wear with jeans or for home décor, the possibilities are endless. NOTE: Pictures show the piece folded in half so you can see the front and back hand-work in one picture. Mirrors may be cracked or missing from authentic tribal use.
SIZE of EMBROIDERY: 2.5" x 26"
